Coaches Corner: Chris Finn

In our first installment of the USPSA Coaches Corner, we sat down with US National Team and BORP Head Coach, Chris Finn. We talked about his love of coaching, advice he would give to new coaches, and other things.

What do you love about coaching?
What I love about coaching is watching someone touch the ball for the first time, and seeing their eyes light up imagining the endless possibilities of joy and their potential in playing the sport.

Featured Athlete: Lexi Heer

Although this great sport of ours has been played in the US since the 90s, how many can say they've been at it for ten years? Well, Lexi Heer of the RHI Indy Cruisers has and she isn't stopping any time soon, that's for sure!

Lexi first started playing Power Soccer after her mother saw something about the sport on the TV. She is very happy and fortunate her mother did because Lexi says, "Power Soccer has allowed me to meet and make some amazing friends over the years. It has taught me how to be a good sport, allowing me to be able to play a sport independently and give me a way to be competitive." Not only does it give her a chance to be competitive, Lexi feels like "It has helped me build my confidence!"

Featured Athlete: Zak Schmoll

In February 2010, Zak Schmoll was just your typical college student. He was sitting in the University of Vermont's Student Center enjoying his afternoon when he was approached by the president of the Northeast Disabled Athletic Association. Patrick Standen told Zak that he should check out a sport called power soccer and see if he was interested in joining the new team they were starting. A few weeks later, he was on the team and the rest, as they say, is history.

December 2012 Newsletter

Did you know the United States had several representatives at the recent Brazilian clinic? Chris Mulholland reports! The USPSA booth and demo at the San Jose Abilities Expo were a huge success, and new players are already joining local teams. Michael Archer and Ben Carpenter are in the news, and this month we feature Vermont Charger player Zak Schmoll.

With the main registration period over, we are happy to welcome nine new teams to USPSA. The US and Canada have entered into an agreement to count games played with Canadian teams. Long Beach, CA hosted a power soccer clinic recently, and ASU Sun Devil Joey Wells is our Featured Athlete of the month.

Featured Athlete: Joey Wells

In the spring of 2008, Joey Wells was sitting in his Adaptive PE class at Glendale Community College when the teacher suddenly threw an oversized ball at him and said, "Today, we are playing soccer."  Later that year his dream became reality as Joey helped start the Glendale Roughriders. Joey's passion to help others and unselfishness does not stop there. His best soccer moment has little to do with himself.
